Communications Manager

Job Description

The communications manager is responsible for overseeing the projects and workflows of the communications department, focusing on effective project management, fostering relationships with board members, and engaging key stakeholders. This role involves meticulously planning and executing initiatives that align with organizational goals, ensuring board members are well-informed and connected, and developing outreach strategies that build trust and collaboration with stakeholders. Through these efforts, the communications manager ensures that the organization’s messaging is clear, consistent, and impactful.

Essential Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the communications function
  • Monitors and manages communications project, maintaining a log of initiatives, plans and activities
  • Develops and implements outreach and community engagement strategies for FOMB, the executive director, and board members.
  • Coordinates public board meetings and events, handling audio/visual needs, translation, and venue management
  • Assists in the development and management of communications programs for board member visits
  • Supervisors the communications analyst and translators
  • Maintains the communications function calendar
  • Manage communication related events related events related to the executive director
  • Manage communications budget
  • Coordinate with venders and handles procurement
  • Oversees the materials and equipment required for the communications team
  • Scouts and supervises venue selection and logistics for public board meetings and other communications events, including board member outreach

Key Relationships

Internal Relationships

Daily contact with the Directors, and staff to achieve the objectives of PROMESA. 

External Relationships

Frequent contact with advisors, government agencies, attorneys and other stakeholders as needed.

Supervisory responsibilities

This position involves supervisory responsibility.

Requirements for the position

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Project Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing communications or related tasks
  • Experience in supervising employees
  • Experience in project management, including managing large-scale projects from conception to implementation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans in alignment with organizational objectives. 

Additional-Desired Experience 

  • Previous experience in: 
    • Working with the local or federal government 
    • Federal funding requirements
    • Presenting to high-level management
