Job Description

The accountant plays a key role in supporting the Finance & Operations team. This position helps ensure compliance with financial regulations, payroll activities, coordinates audits, and manages cash flow activities. By conducting financial analysis and contributing to process improvements, the accountant enhances efficiency and provides important insights into the organization’s financial health, facilitating informed decision-making and effective financial planning.

Essential Role and Responsibilities

  • Reconciling general ledger accounts, investigating discrepancies, and posting journal entries as needed
  • Assisting with closing processes, including preparing adjusting entries and resolving any discrepancies to ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Reconciling bank statements and other financial records to ensure accuracy.
  • Conducting payroll processes, including the setup for new hires, validation of discrepancies, and processing terminations, in collaboration with HR.
  • Reviewing and processing employee expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with tax-related payroll processes in partnership with HR, ensuring compliance with tax obligations, accuracy of tax withholdings, and maximizing efficiency.
  • Processing vendor invoices, managing approval requests, verifying accuracy, and ensuring timely payments and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized financial records in accounting systems.
  • Creating and maintaining monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to monitor and track organizational performance.
  • Gathering and organizing financial data from multiple sources for analysis and reporting, assisting with data collection efforts.
  • Assisting in the development and management of the FOMB budget, including the creation, review, and adjustment of budgets for new initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Providing financial insights and analysis related to operational activities to support management decisions, including budgeting and forecasting, cost analysis, and identifying trends.
  • Monitoring actual expenditures versus the budget, providing regular variance analysis reports.
  • Collaborating with various departments to support financial initiatives and projects that are in line with organizational goals and budget plans.
  • Providing support in preparing reports and materials for external auditing to ensure financial accuracy and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Keeping leadership updated on important milestones, policy decisions, and financial strategies.
  • Communicating financial information and insights clearly to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations by assisting in the review and implementation of updated policies and procedures.
  • Being open to taking on additional tasks as required, showing flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.

Key Relationships

Internal Relationships

  • Engages with the rest of the finance and operations team to support financial reporting, budgets, decision making, etc.
  • Coordinates with the Budget Management team to support the organization’s overall financial health.

External Relationships

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with vendors to resolve payment discrepancies, clarify billing inquiries, and ensure accurate and timely payments.
  • Ability to work with auditors, coordinating the audit process, ensuring that all necessary information is provided, and that the organization complies with reporting requirements.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • The position does not involve supervisory responsibility.

Requirements for the position

  • Proven experience in finance or a related field within the Finance & Operations area.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in accounting or financial reporting.
  • Experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.

Skills and Competencies

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Ability to assist with financial operations, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and local standards.
  • Attention to detail in preparing and reviewing financial statements and reports.
  • Knowledge of financial software and basic accounting systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to share financial information with colleagues and stakeholders.
